Geschiedenis en Doelstellingen
De International SHANTY and SEASONG Association (ISSA), is opgericht op 11 November 1995 als opvolging van de INSSA uit 1989. De doelstellingen van de ISSA zijn:

* Het bewaren van shanties en seasongs als cultureel erfgoed;
* Bieden van onderlinge ondersteuning, samenwerking en uitwisseling van informatie tussen de aangesloten koren en groepen;
* En het onderhouden van contacten binnen de verschillende deelnemende landen.

De ISSA bereikt deze doelstellingen o.a. door organisatie van een shantyfestival.
Deze festivals vinden plaats in een van de deelnemende landen. Om de "internationale" status te bereiken moeten deze festivals aan bepaalde eisen voldoen.

Geschichte und Ziele
Seit dem 11. November 1995 besteht die Vereinigung ISSA. Sie ist die Nachfolgerin der 1989 gegründeten INSSA. Zielsetzung dieser Organisation ist die:

* Erhaltung der Shanties und Seemannslieder als Kulturgut;
* gegenseitige Unterstützung, die Zusammenarbeit und der Austausch von Informationen zwischen den angeschlossenen Chören;
* Pflege der Kontakte zwischen den teilnehmenden Ländern

Die ISSA möchte dieses Ziel u.a. erreichen durch ein jährliches Shanty-Festival, das abwechselnd in einem der angeschlossenen Länder stattfindet. Ein ISSA Festival ist bestimmten Rahmenbedingungen unterworfen, durch die ein Festival internationales Ansehen genießen wird.

The International SHANTY and SEASONG Association (ISSA), was founded on the 11th. November, 1995 as successor to the INSSA of 1989. The aims of the ISSA are:

* to preserve shanties and seasongs as a cultural heritage;
* provide mutual support, cooperation and exchange of information between affiliated member choirs and groups;
* and maintain contacts within the various participating countries.

The ISSA achieves these goals in part through organising an annual shanty- festival.
These festivals take place in one of our associate countries each year. To achieve “international” status these festivals must meet certain standards.

Histoire et buts
La International SHANTY and SEASONG Association(ISSA), a été fondée le 11 November 1995 en succéssion de INSSA de 1989. Les buts de ISSA sont:

* De préserver les shanties et chants de marin comme un héritage culturel;
* Obtenir une aide mutuelle, cooperation et échange d'informations entre les chorales et groupes adhérents
* et d'entretenir des contacts entre les différents pays participants.

ISSA atteint ces buts en partie en organisant un festival shanty par an.
Ces festivals ont lieu dans un des pays associé. Pour atteindre un status "international" ces festivals doivent remplir certains standards.
